I wasn’t overly impressed with Canyonlands, although I only visited one ‘district’ of the park. It is split up into 4 areas (districts), and we visited The Island in the Sky area of the park to do the Mesa Arch hike. The hike was fairly simple with very little elevation, but as per usual you can expect to sweat a metric ass-ton if the sun is out, which it was the day I went. Ultimately for how easy the hike was, the payoff is just incredible. It overlooks Buck Canyon, the White Rim, as well as the Colorado River (which mysteriously looks like the slime from Double Dare <— age check).
We also spent part of the day doing the Upheaval Dome hike which suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked and made me want to die of heat stroke. I wish I could say it was worth it once I got there, but I was so hot and miserable at that point that I didn’t give two shits about crater.
There are a few cool lookouts to stop at and visit, but other than that there wasn’t much to see in this particular district. I would HIGHLY recommend stopping at Canyonlands just to do the Mesa Arch hike, but I wish I would have used the rest of that day spending more time at Arches or even drinking some delicious local beers in Moab.
